WASHINGTON – AFSCME President Lee Saunders released the following statement recognizing National Nurses Week, which is happening May 6-12, 2024:
“The dedication, courage and skill nurses show every day is indescribable and awe-inspiring. In a high-stakes work environment with little margin for error, they not only bring medical expertise, but they also have the bedside manner to help us through some of our most difficult, stressful moments. We cannot thank them enough.
“As front-line professionals, nurses know better than anyone what patients need to heal and what hospitals need to thrive. That is why we must ensure nurses have a protected voice on the job, so they can advocate for themselves and for a stronger health care system. We are incredibly proud that 60,000 nurses across the country have chosen to be members of AFSCME, and we stand with them in their continued fight for fair pay, safe staffing levels and better working conditions.”
